We started here in Evanston, dining at Siam Pasta (yet again) and sipping chocolate at Ethel's Chocolate Lounge--a place Adam and I decided was no place for men to come alone. The walls were pink, the sofas and chairs are covered with flower pillows, and chocolate quotations cover the walls. I think already Stacey had a good idea about how cold it could feel in Chicago. When they left Charleston the temperature in the early morning was in the 60s; here the temperature was 31 with 15-20 mph wind gusts. Stacey also got trapped in a revolving door at CVS (we forget they don't really have those in the South).
The next day we did downtown Chicago, walking Stacey around the famous skyscrapers, lobbies, and public art for the first time. We also were "forced" to try out multiple burrito venues during their visit for comparison to Moe's in SC. Baja Fresh earned high marks for the best nachos around and the salsa bar. Chipotle came in third place (after Moe's and Baja Fresh), but in her words, "It's a close competition all the way down."
On Saturday we drove up to Milwaukee, the least driver-friendly city in the U.S. right now. Despite getting lost and driving around for 30 minutes with full bladders, we enjoyed all the precious dairy products Wisconsin has to offer - Kopp's custard, five-year cheddar, and giant cheese hats.
We also enjoyed carving pumpkins for Halloween. Stacey and Adam disagreed a little artistically, as Stacey thought "a million points of light" in the Republican style would be best--carried out by a Dremel drill. Adam, on the other hand, wanted a coherent plan of action.
One of the other main events was a night at the Second City Comedy Club. A quite funny mix of Broadwayesque showtunes, standup, and improv.
Can you guess which pumpkin belongs to which couple?
