Stop #4: Reflections on Cannon Pond

It's always great to turn once again to the essentials: good food and the great outdoors - and what better place to do it than Grandmamma and Grandaddy Newton's house in Conway. Highlights included the famous grilled steaks, bacon-wrapped grilled corn, fried shrimp and shrimp gravy, brownie delight, and roast beef. Rachel suprised Grandaddy by whipping up a traditional Southern meal of her own and it actually being good! (Rachel really is a good cook, apparently she had never done it for Grandaddy before though)

Outdoors we made a squirrel feeder, a Pocky stick (that dispenses water to the dog at the appropriate height and with the appropriate flare for a pampered princess like Pocky - see below). Pocky even turned the pond into a playground by falling in three times, never learning her lesson that sitting with her rear end near the bank isn't a smart idea. All three times she was hoping to grab the bread we threw to the fish and turtles... unfortunately they got the best of her.

Favorite Quotes:

"Terri, your boyfriend doesn't look like God to me!"

GD: I thought the remote control was the silliest idea when it came out!
B: Yeah, you were thinking that nobody could be lazy enough to need help changing the channel and get out of their seat, right?
GM: Well, he proves himself wrong every day of his life.

When Rachel and Granddaddy were chowing down on grilled cheese sandwiches, Grandmamma says:
"I've always enjoyed watching little pigs eat."

As for memorable quotes, seems we heard that Granddaddy checked the classified job ads in the newpaper every morning and concluded daily: "Nope, there's nothing in rhetoric today!" ;-)
